Import Your Projects

  • Updated
Add your projects to Assignar by uploading a spreadsheet. Each project belongs to a client, so you can attach orders, timesheets and dockets to the right job.

Before you start

  • You need dashboard access to Assisted Import. If you can't see it under Settings, ask your admin team to update your user permissions.

  • Have your data ready in a .csv, .tsv, .xls or .xlsx file.

  • Add your clients first. Each project needs a Client Name.

Prepare your file

Add one row per project. Use these columns. Assignar suggests a match for each one when you upload, so the headings don't have to match exactly.

Open Assisted Import and upload your file

  1. Go to Settings > Assisted Import.

  2. Click Upload next to Projects. The page also shows how many projects have been imported, who uploaded last and when.

The Assisted Import page

  1. Click Upload file and choose your file, or drag and drop it. To type projects in directly instead, click Manually enter data.

  2. Wait while Assignar reads your file. The message at the bottom of the screen ends with Extraction completed.

Match your columns

Assignar lists the columns from your file (Incoming fields) next to the Assignar fields they will go into (Destination fields), and suggests a match for each.

  1. Check each match. Click a field to see a preview of its data. To change a match, click the destination field and choose a different one.

  2. Click Continue.

Use the x next to a destination field to clear a match, and the down arrow to choose a different field. Exit, Back and Continue are at the top right.

Fix any problems

Assignar checks your data for missing required fields and wrongly formatted data. Cells with a problem are highlighted red. Cells with a problem are highlighted red.

  1. Wait for the check to finish. Use the All, Valid and Invalid tabs to see how many rows pass.

  2. Click a red cell to read what is wrong, then click the cell and type the corrected value.

  3. To leave a row out, select it, click Actions > Delete, then confirm.

When every row is valid, the Valid tab shows the full count and the Invalid tab is empty. Scroll right to check the other columns.

You can also use Filter and the search icon to find rows, Actions > Download to save selected rows, and Transform to describe a bulk change in plain words and preview it before applying.

Submit your projects

  1. When every row is valid, click Submit Projects. The button stays grey while you are editing a cell, so click outside the grid first.

  2. When you see Success! This is now complete., click Continue.

  3. Go to the Projects page in the Assignar Dashboard to see what you imported.

If you close the importer before you submit, you are warned that unsaved changes will be lost.
