Add / Edit / Delete - Skills

  • Updated

Add skills to Assignar, edit them as your requirements change, and remove the ones you no longer need. Skills are how Assignar matches the right workers and equipment to the right work.

Before you start

A skill is usually a group of one or more competencies (qualifications). You can select existing competencies, or create a new one without leaving this page. To set them up in advance, see Add / Edit / Delete - Competencies

Decide whether this skill needs competencies attached, or whether it will be a standalone skill with none.

What is a skill?

A skill is a way of grouping the competencies (qualifications) that a worker or a piece of equipment needs in order to do a particular type of work. A skill is usually made up of one or more competencies, but you can also create a skill with no competencies attached.

Once a skill exists, you link it to your roles (tasks) and to your assets. Assignar then uses those links to check compliance and to recommend the right workers and equipment when you schedule.

Sub-skills: A sub-skill is a skill that this skill can also perform. For example, you might make a car licence a sub-skill of a truck licence. Then, when you search for a worker with a car licence, Assignar returns everyone who holds the car licence as well as everyone who holds the truck licence. Adding a sub-skill is optional.

Add a skill

  1. Go to Compliance > Skills.
  2. Click + Add New.
  3. Enter a name in the skill name field.
  4. Under Competencies, select the competencies (qualifications) this skill should include.
    • Optional. Leave this blank to create a standalone skill with no competencies.
    • To create a competency you do not have yet, click Add New Competency, enter a name, tick Expiration Required or Issue Required if they apply, then click Save.
  5. Under SubSkill, select a skill to add as a sub-skill if this skill should also cover another skill.
    • Optional. See the note on sub-skills above.
  6. Click Save.

Edit a skill

  1. Go to Compliance > Skills.
  2. Click the skill you want to change, or click the vertical ellipsis () next to it and click Edit.
  3. Update the name, competencies, or sub-skill.
  4. Click Save.

Delete a skill

Deleting is permanent

Deleting a skill removes it from the skills list and from every role (task) and asset that uses it. Once deleted, the skill can no longer be selected when you add or update a role or asset. Check the roles and assets that use the skill before you delete it.

  1. Go to Compliance > Skills.
  2. Click the vertical ellipsis () next to the skill you want to remove, then click Delete.
  3. Confirm when prompted to permanently delete the skill.

Things to know

  • A skill with no competencies attached still works. Use one when you want to tag workers or equipment for a type of work that does not require a formal qualification.
  • The Competency Count column on the Skills list shows how many competencies each skill includes.
  • Editing the competencies on a skill updates compliance everywhere that skill is used, not just for one worker.
  • Deleting a skill can change which workers and equipment show as compliant, because it is removed from every role and asset it was linked to.
